"If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” - George Bernard Shaw

HESTER PRYNNE'S INNOCENT!!!

Humans are animals, living beings. We have a desire of pleasure and company. Who knows if Chillingworth cheated on Hester as well. She only need to be loyal to herself. Why should she stay loyal to a man who ditched her, for whatever reasons he had. After all that loniless, it is absolutely reasonable for her to have another affair. Since Chillingworth was thought to be dead, Hester is a (supposively) widow. As a result, she has every right to remarry. The Puritans establish such a ridiculous rule as God should never forbid any couple for connection of love. Sex, the primary pleasure of human (originally), should not be forbidden to a widow. If Chillingworth really loves her, he should not blame her for adultery. Simply put, Chillingworth never loved her and thus, marriage of that is non sense. HESTER is INNOCENT.
