Quote
"If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” - George Bernard Shaw

The American Ideal
That quote cannot be better in demonstrating the American Ideal. That arrogant, egocentric race, which once believe they are the best and do all sorts of stuff that is ridiculously arrogant. That is totally different from OUR, or "Taiwanese" Ideals. We stubbornly adhere to our idea of independence. Many Taiwanese showed strong feelings for our nation. The national indentity has been rooted deep into us and became part of our ideal. Not to mention that we got an extremist in our class (don't kill me if you saw this... you know who you are ). Over that specific issue of identity, Americans and we Taiwanese share a similiar ideal. Protect our individuality from all that may threaten it. However, on many other issues, our ideal part way from those of Americans. We believe in modesty on contrast of American's arrogancy. We believe in frugality instead of luxury. Although many of our ideals differ, there is one thing that we share and deeply rooted into our culture, and that is national identity. Simply, when one denies our country, Americans or Taiwanese alike, will stand up for our honor and destroy that threat to our name, in just about any means possible.
